Nancy L. Thompson
Nancy has forty years of experience helping consumers, farmers and small businesses with debt problems. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Iowa State University and her J.D., with honors, from the University of Iowa College of Law. Before entering private practice with Nancy L. Thompson Law Office, P.C. she was the Farm Law attorney for the Nebraska Legal Aid Society and an attorney with the Center for Rural Affairs in Nebraska.
In 2015 Nancy was presented with a Distinguished Service Award by the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA), in recognition and appreciation for her contributions to the organization.
From 2006 to 2008 Nancy was Chair of the Iowa State Bar Association Commercial and Bankruptcy Section. In 2007 she was named Outstanding Section Chair for Legislative Advocacy for her successful efforts to improve Iowa’s personal property exemptions on behalf of debtors. She is a member of the Iowa State Bar Association and the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. Nancy has authored several publications and articles about bankruptcy, student loan law, mortgage foreclosure and farm credit and is a frequent speaker at legal seminars. Melissa Ansley Brooks
Melissa has been with Nancy L. Thompson Law Office, P.C. since 2004. Melissa received her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa and her Master’s Degree in Legal Studies from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
In her capacity as paralegal, Melissa works with clients to prepare bankruptcy petitions and schedules, answers routine questions from clients about their cases and assists in preparing court pleadings. Besides her work with Nancy L. Thompson Law Office, P.C., Melissa is also the Program Head and Associate Professor for a community college paralegal studies program. She is raising a son in middle school.
